Made it JUST in time for Makeover Monday!!

Ok so if your ANYWHERE other than the West Coast it's already Tuesday for you but it's still MONDAY here!!!

I spent most of the past 3 days outdoors with the kids which is great!!!

However, it does make it hard to finish a project or two.

I was so busy with them I didn't even remember to at least line up someone else's projects so I could keep on track!?

So that left me with skipping it all together or working really  hard to get one project done in time!

So I won't keep you waiting any longer!!!

Here's the before photo,

I got her about a year ago.
YES she has sat in my garage for almost one full year!!!

She was in pretty bad shape when I got her.

Full of stickers and a bit rickety!

Mr. Treasures did a little something to her about 4 months ago...

You can read more about that here

Ok so are you ready to meet Dottie?
Are you sure?

HA!!!

Here she is....

Horrible picture right??

That was without the flash so let me show you with...

Even worse right!?!
Neither one of these photos accurately depict Dottie's true color.

The lighting in my house must be pretty bad.

She is really a darker grey, without the blueish tint that's showing up in these photos.
Not that the blueish color is bad- I kinda like it, but it's just not the true color.

Anyhow Dottie first got a coat of black.

Once that dried she got a coat of dark grey.
The actual color is called "Antique Tin" from Behr

LOVE it!!

Then she got a heavy sanding to reveal the black and even the original wood in some places.

Have I ever mentioned to you how much work it is to make something look old and beat up?!
Once I got Dottie distressed the way I wanted I went ahead and used...

Black and white polka DOT ribbons for her drawer pulls.
Get it? DOTtie?

I'm sorry it's late and I've been exposed to a lot of sun the past 3 days.

Here's another look at her ribbon with the flash,

Cute right??

Alright that's it for Monday Makeover!!

I made it!!!

It's still a few minutes before 10 pm here!!

Hope you enjoyed!

Hidden Treasures!!

Treasures don't just come in the form of furniture!!

At least not for ME they don't!!

Look what I found hiding in the bottom of my closet

(yes hiding!! it's a scary place where all things wardrobe related go to die)

The cutest swimsuit cover up ever!!!  OK maybe not ever but it sure is cute!!!

I was so excited I didn't even TRY to get the wrinkles out! ;)

So, while Mr. Treasures is off selling houses today, the kids and I decided to get a little outdoor fun in.

They'll be switching back and forth between water balloon fights and swimming in the pool.

I'll be meandering around the yard daydreaming about the oasis it will some day be.

Enjoy your weekend!

Options for Hope...

That title sounds so much deeper than this post is!!!!

Although we all know the power of design and color!!

It sure makes me happy and full of HOPE!

Ok if you didn't see yesterday's post, STOP and go here first.

Then by all means COME BACK!!

I'm going to show you several photos. Some I know where they came from, some I do not. If you know the source PLEASE tell me and if it's yours and you want it removed please let me know that as well.

Now this first one is really distressed. I don't have my heart set on distressing Hope.

#1

(Tracy Porter)

but I really love the idea of the outside being cream and the inside green.
Next,

#2
(Tracy Porter)
black with an accent color inside?

if so I'd like to do something other than grey, BEEN there, DONE that.
Maybe,

#3

(Tracy Porter- I think)

a Kelly green?

even a little lighter with some glazing on all her detail?

#4

(source unknown)

Or maybe a fun turquoise?

#5

(don't remember this one either)

This is a beautiful option too...

#6

Doesn't it look amazing?!?

#7

(I'm thinking Junk Restore?)

     UPDATE!!!!

When I posted this earlier I thought this photo was my friend Tammy's hutch.
It is IDENTICAL to a hutch she JUST finished painting.

IDENTICAL

Ignore her laundry- she was productive that day ;)

Crazy right?!
Either way the are both.....

B-E-A-U-TIFUL!!

There's also the grey option..

#8

or  gray- whichever way you want to spell it, it certainly is on the rise in mainstream decor

and has me swooning.

Now for the blue fans. I'm only recently joining your group.

However I join with conditions.

Although I can appreciate ALL colors and ALL style of decor when it comes to my own...

I like dark, moody blues.
Like.....

#9

Or maybe a nice turquoise blue?

#10

(source unknown)

The ceramic pot looks like a perfect mix of these two colors!!

If it's going to be any lighter than these options than it has to have a grey undertone.

Yesterday, Cat left a comment  about painting Hope the color of my blog.

That sounds like a great option!!

Ok you've got several to choose from or can throw in your own!!

You can either leave your vote here or on the fan page!

While your all voting, I'll be here....

(Mae Brunken in garden courtyard- original source unknown)

So just yell when your done! ;)

Would you mind another Treasures Thursday????

I know I promised no more until I had some Makeover Mondays under my belt buuuuuut

I found a Treasure that is oooh so perfect and I'm thinking I might have to break a promise.

That's ok right?? I mean you'll forgive me if I do it just this once??

I thought so.

I guess by now you know that I am THE worst at keeping a schedule!!  I mean it's only been 3 weeks of Makeover Mondays and you've only seen MY stuff once!!  Oh well, you already forgave me so I won't keep going on about it!!!
I'd like to introduce you to.......

Hope.
Hope the Hutch. As in there is "hope" for her!!
Clever I know.
HA!!!!

Here take a close look...

She has glass shelves  and...

Gorgeous chunky detail.

Plus THE coolest drawer pulls EVER!!!

Right??

This baby was on Cracklist  Craigslist for a while. I watched and waited. Finally they dropped their price to $50 but I still waited and watched. Then after about a week or so I emailed and asked if they'd take

$30

Your not wondering what their answer was are you???  ;)

Now, what color???

I don't have a lack of inspiration.

The problem I have is, I need about 35 more hutches to paint!!

I LOVE to many!!

So your going to have to help me out on this one!!!

Come back tomorrow to see your choices!

Do you have a KNACK for Makeovers???

Yep it's that time again, It's Monday!!

 Which means it's time for,

 another Makeover Monday post!!!

      Only one problem.....

It's Monday and I don't have ONE Makeover of my own to show you yet again!!!

Don't worry, someone bailed me out again!!

 Meet Nikki...

I know, she's gorgeous right??

She's very talented when it comes to all things decor!!

Some might say she has a knack for it!

(I crack myself up)

Take a look at a few of her recent makeovers....

This poor guy looks sad doesn't he?!

Heck I probably would have passed him up!!!

Not Nikki! Nope.....

Love it, don't you??

Then she took this.....

Funky outdated country looking table and....

Gave her a gorgeous Makeover!!

But wait that's not all!!!

Most of us would have stopped right there!

Thinking it was perfection right??

Not Nikki!!

She painted the top to resemble a vintage clock!!!
LOVE IT!!!

But then again, I'm not surprised!!

You see I've "known" Nikki for awhile now and early on I nicknamed her...

The MacGyver of decor

Yep that's right, give this woman some rope a stick of gum and a paper clip
and she'll turn it into something like this...

Don't believe me???

Stop by here and read all about it!!

After that, browse through the rest of her previous posts and see what she's capable of!!

No really!!

Read this one to see what she did one morning while the rest of us were running around trying to pack
lunches and remember to tell the kids to brush their teeth!!!

When you are done soaking up all her "Kreative" ness (still feeling like i'm funny at this point)

make sure you find her fan page on facebook!!

Thank God for talented friends right?

Budget Decor Tips!

Yesterday, on my facebook fan page

                              All My Treasures.

                      I asked the following questions:

Do you change your mind often when it comes to color??
Do you get bored easily with your decor??

I also said:

If you answered yes to either of these you won't want to miss my tips on How to change your look often without spending a ton of money!!!

Let me start by telling you, If money isn't an issue for you or if your already a seasoned decorator these tips aren't for you.
I mean, I know I'm not reinventing the wheel here.
But, If you are on a budget and like to change often then you'll want to keep the following in mind the next time your shopping.

1) ALWAYS stick to neutrals on the big ticket items.
i.e. couch, rugs, curtains
Now if you've followed along with me for a while you know that I am anything BUT neutral.

Bohemian chic is my love!

Tracy Porter's home is HEAVEN for me.
Don't be confused though, neutral doesn't mean boring.
It doesn't mean plain.

Let  me show you some examples:

This room may not have color on the walls  but it's anything but boring.

Now remember neutral doesn't mean white or tan.

Neutral just means, choosing big ticket items that don't tie you down to any one specific style.

Change out the pillows....

(not positive but I think this is Cota De Texas)

and you've got a completely different look for very little money.

Get bored with that??

3 months later and you want something different already?

No problem....

(The Polished Pebble)

Buy new pillows!!!
Even better- learn how to sew and simply make covers for the pillows you already own!!
Again, don't assume that neutral means white/tan/plain.
for example...

None of these are white/tan and I certainly don't think they qualify as "plain"

I LOVE the green of this sofa.

In this shade I consider it a neutral!
Notice the rug?

Certainly not boring but also doesn't tie us down!!

Change out these pillows and blanket and the possibilities for this room are endless!!

This next one is my favorite!!!

See me in the background doing the dishes?

Just insert Lil Red on that couch and it's home!!!
(well almost home- I'd change the kitchen table really)

Even this orange couch leaves you with more options than something with a distinct pattern and multiple colors.
Again, neutral doesn't mean white/tan/boring. It also doesn't mean just a solid color!

Take a look at this black and white striped couch.

I'm a firm believer that the color black is a neutral.

As for stripes??

They go with ANY decor!
Just keep in mind that if you have any more than 2 colors your starting to get to that "tied down" area.

Yes, I have a 2 color rule when using any big ticket items.

No more than 2 colors are aloud.

This way my 3rd color introduced into the room is the one that allows me the freedom to change often

without taking ALL my change!

Your 3rd color is the one to have fun with!
For example,

(Ok so these chairs aren't stripes but you see they fall into the 2 color rule)

Your smaller items like this end table. This and your pillows are where you can have fun!

Once again, if you tire of it, your a $3.00 can of spray paint and a few pillows away from a whole new look!

Is this making sense to you?

Let me show you another example to help you understand what I'm talking about

This is a GREAT room. It's full of character and color.
but....

What happens when I'm over

RED?

Ok If I've used this much of it in one room maybe I won't get over red so much
but what if I'm over this santa fe, country type look?

What are my options with this couch or this rug??

Not many!

Now I know the majority of the photos I've shown have had plain white walls or very little color.

You do not have to do that!!!

Paint is THE cheapest way to change your look!!!

Don't be afraid to slap some color up on those walls!!

This next photo is great!

See all that personality!? All that color?
By the way, notice the rug?

Perfect example of my 2 color max!!

Even though it's a bold pattern you can still go in so many different directions decor wise!!!

Well, as I'm reading back over this I realize that it's not so much "tips"
more like my one really long winded "tip"

Really what it boils down to is...

1) stay neutral when it comes to the big ticket items

2) add color with pillows and other accessories

3) don't be afraid to paint!!!

Hope that helps those of you who like to change but feel stuck.

Stick to these rules and you'll never regret the $2000 plus you spent on a couch
or the $300-600 you've spent on a rug!!

The photos came from various places all over the internet.
If you know where one came from
please leave the info for me in the comments!
